BBC's Dimple Blog: A New Year

So here we are having left 2008 behind and starting afresh in 2009. It’s funny because no matter what anyone says I think most people look back to what they achieved and what went well this year for them, whilst also thinking about some of the disappointments that they might have encountered. I know I have been. And I think that before I start to consider how I would like my 2009 to shape up I really need to be honest with myself about my disappointments because the mere fact that I label them that way means that they mean something to me.

I think I’m actually very lucky. I’ve actually had a great year, yes there have been some ups and downs, mostly ups and I did encounter one big down. One relationship that was very very dear to me just no longer served me and I had to walk away and let go from that person which when looking back on 2008 was probably my biggest disappointment. So I asked myself the question, as we all probably do, who actually in my life supports and nourishes me and is quite simply ‘Non-toxic’? and why? Also how am I with those people and in fact how do I serve all the important people in my world? Am I toxic or nourishing to them? Asking myself this question I find very revealing both ways.

When you have been in a relationship with someone for years and somehow you realise that having them in your life makes you smaller it can be hard to accept that fact and I think we all carry on 9 times out of 10 in that relationship without being compassionate to ourselves and doing what is right for us. I’m talking about all kinds of relationships by the way which include friendships, work colleagues and lovers.

So I guess this week’s blog is about 2009, the way I look at it a big fat sunshine on my horizon, a new sheet of paper, full of hope and inspiration and hopefully filled with some damn good experiences that money can’t buy. Because ultimately when I look back not just on 2008, but the last decade the things that make me really smile, that make me really giggle are not the possessions I have accumulated nor really the achievements I’ve made. Yes they’re nice but the stuff which makes me feel so incredibly happy and alive are the relationships I’ve had (of all kinds) and the experiences I’ve had through work, holidays and travel and the fun that I had doing them. I think life is about experiences, some which can seem terrifying and a little other worldly at times, although most of the time they are the things that give me confidence, by pushing some of my hottest buttons. It’s a bit like India, well for me anyway, which presses all of my buttons continuously and yet I love the place even if I do find myself getting so incredibly frustrated at how slow things can be at times compared to what I am used to. But that’s just pushing my patience button I suppose.

So what does 2009 hold in store for me and you? Well I’m no astrologer or psychic but I do know that perhaps over the next few days if I think back to my most memorable moments and worked out why they are so then I am creating a ‘state of mind and being’ that is open to my hopes and dreams happening this year.

I am lucky enough to be spending time with one of my closest friends this New Years, Kerrie Keeling who is also my co-Founder of Good Vibes, a media company we are developing right as I blog. We’re hanging out at her place in Spain, hoping to catch a wave, swim in the sea and catch up on some good girly gossip over a bottle or two of vino tinto. One of the things we are doing is working out what our top 7-10 goals are going to be for 2009 covering experiences as well as looking at what we would like to achieve with our businesses, relationships, friendships and our health & wellbeing.

We’re writing it down and we are creating vision boards which is essentially a visual picture of our subconscious desires and wants. By sharing our vision with each other we hope that in some way we are accountable and committed to making it happen. Also it is so much more fun coming up with experiences and ideas that quite frankly need to time and energy to germinate. I’m forever thinking about new ideas and what I think the next big thing will be and 99% of the time they sit with me in my head but I think that at least once a year it is very exciting to put some of my favourite ones down on paper through words and pictures and sharing them with someone who supports and encourages me continuously, as Kerrie does.

Kerrie and I have been doing this for a few years now and I guess all I would say is that this stuff works. You do it all in the present tense, you challenge yourself to dream bigger and you make a commitment to making it happen. It’s worked for us and endless people I know who are successful in various areas of their lives and they always seem to be those people with lots of spark, bubbling with ideas and doing amazing things with their lives.

So why don’t you plan a day, yes that’s right a whole day on working on your goals for 2009. Kerrie, myself and another good friend Hazel Newton (a regression therapist) are doing exactly this today when we did actually think we would be learning to kitesurf, but even in Spain it rains sometimes.
The beauty of this is that like with any journey if you know where you are heading then you are more likely to reach your destination. It’s also useful to establish exactly where you are right now. You may not know right now HOW but that doesn’t really matter because we all know that the universe conspires to make our deeply held desires and wishes come true. So be careful what you wish for☺!!!!

You’ll know if your goals for 2009 are right for you because they will get you smiling both inside and out, you’ll be excited and happy when you think about it and if you are like me you won’t know when to stop! Right now in my mind I am living in Chamonix in my chalet skiing and yoga in the mornings and running my businesses, The Blue Seed, Good Vibes and dimpleyoga in the afternoons and early evenings because that rhythm works best for me. I’m also totally loved up……………we shall see.

So what’s on your Vision Board?

Until the next time…………..Namaste Dimple xoxo
