Britons Carey Mulligan and Colin Firth have won the best actor Baftas with The Hurt Locker, the story of bomb disposal experts in Iraq, named best film.
That movie was the night's big winner taking six awards in total including best director for Kathryn Bigelow - the first woman to win the prize.
Some of the biggest screams from fans lining the red carpet last night were for Prince William.
The 27-year-old royal even received a peck on the cheek from one as he arrived at the ceremony to take over as president of Bafta - following in the footsteps of his grandfather and aunt.
